Deep Creek (Ninilchik)

The feel

Deep Creek is a roadside king and steelhead stream at Ninilchik, with a saltwater launch nearby for halibut and salmon. Deep Creek State Recreation Area has a beach launch with tractor service, a campground, and bank fishing at the bridge.

Crowds are medium. Kings run 10-30 lb and silvers 6-10 lb, and anglers work the creek from the bank or head out on the saltwater for halibut.

Chinook (king) 10-30 lb in May and June; Coho (silver) 6-10 lb in August and September. Steelhead and halibut are also targeted.

Stream king openings are date-limited. The tractor-launched saltwater fleet needs a federal halibut stamp. Saltwater halibut and salmon have their own limits, so verify freshwater and saltwater rules.
