Thunderbird Falls

The feel

The trail climbs steeply at first, then levels out and becomes an easy walk. It runs through a birch forest on a steep hillside overhanging Eklutna Canyon, on rolling terrain with boardwalk and viewing areas. After a brief uphill section it skirts the edge of the canyon and private property to a recently refurbished viewing deck.

From the deck you see the 200 foot high falls. The trail also continues down to the base of the falls for a closer look. It is one of the most popular first hikes for families with small children.

Come in winter if you want ice. The falls often freeze into sculptures.
