Susitna Loop

The feel

The Susitna Loop runs west of the Government Peak chalet through the forest of the recreation area. It is easy, quiet and kid-friendly, and it is walkable in summer. The Chugach Range stands in bold view from the recreation area.

In winter the recreation area offers groomed and lighted trails for some 4.5 miles. By summer the ski trails turn into walking trails that start and end at the chalet. Mountain bikers ride two-way singletrack here, so expect to share the area.

Walk it in summer, when the ski trails are open to walkers. Plan around the 10 PM summer closing time.
