Matanuska Loop

The feel

The Matanuska Loop starts at the Government Peak chalet and winds through the forest of the recreation area. It is an easy, quiet walk in summer, and it suits kids. The Chugach Range stands in bold view from the recreation area.

In winter the Government Peak Recreation Area offers some 4.5 miles of groomed and lighted recreation trails. By summer the ski trails turn into walking trails that start and end at the chalet. The Government Peak Race Trail begins on this loop.
