Moose Flats Loop Trail

The feel

Moose Flats Loop is a short, fully accessible interpretive loop around two ponds at Kesugi Ken Campground, with a view of Denali on a clear day. A small boardwalk crosses the muskeg, and the trail has interpretive signage.

It works as a stop on its own or as an easy add-on to a longer ridge hike, since it can be combined with the Curry Ridge Trail.

What to expect

Route and terrain

Loop, about 0.5 mile, with about 20 ft of gain. Fully accessible, with a small boardwalk over muskeg.

About half an hour or less.

Parking

The trail starts at the day-use parking lot near the campground, at Mile 135.4 of the George Parks Highway. Turn right into the campground.

Fees and passes

Day parking is $5, paid at the fee station.

Bathrooms and water

Vaulted latrines are throughout the campground complex, and a hand pump water well sits within both camp loops.

Season and access

The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-September.

Pick a clear day, because the Denali view depends on the sky. Aim for a summer visit, when interpretive programs run most days.

• Bring $5 for day parking at the fee station.
• Interpretive programming runs most summer days, Memorial Day through Labor Day, at the K'esugi Ken Interpretive Center.
• Pair it with the Curry Ridge Trail if you want a longer walk.
