The feel
Seward's in-town beaches give bank anglers a real shot at hatchery kings in June and silvers into September. There are three main surf spots: south of the small boat launch, the Seward Lagoon outflow, and the mouth of Lowell Creek. You can also fish from the lagoon-outfall gravel, the boat-launch beach and the breakwater walls, where you yield to boats.
Crowds are high. Kings run 25 to 45 lb (hatchery) and silvers 6 to 15 lb. Pink (humpy) and sockeye are in the mix too.
What to expect
- Water and access
- Ocean shore fishing from the lagoon-outfall gravel, the boat-launch beach and the breakwater walls (yield to boats). Surf spots are south of the small boat launch, the Seward Lagoon outflow and the mouth of Lowell Creek.
- Species and timing
- Chinook (king) run May and June, with hatchery kings from mid-May to June and a peak in mid-June. Coho (silver) run August and September, with silvers from late August to mid-September. Pink (humpy) and sockeye also appear. Season is May to September.
- Methods and gear
- Bank fishing with spin gear and bait. Only one hook, single or treble, per line. Artificial lures or flies and bait are legal.
- License and rules
- Resurrection Bay Terminal Harvest Area. Special terminal-area bag limits apply, so verify them before you fish. Snagging is legal in Resurrection Bay salt water.
- Crowds and best time
- Crowds are high. Fish 2 to 3 hours before high tide.
- Hazards
- Yield to boats at the boat-launch beach and breakwater walls.
- Season and access
- May to September.

Plan around the tide table, because the tide sets the fishing. Come in mid-June for the king peak, or later in summer for silvers.
