Resurrection Bay (Seward)

The feel

This is deep saltwater out of Seward, fished for silvers, halibut, rockfish and lingcod, with Chinook (king) in the mix too. Charters run daily in summer, and private boats head out from the same Seward small-boat harbor.

Fish run from 6 to 12 lb for silvers, 8 to 25 lb for lingcod and 15 to 80 lb for halibut. If you would rather stay on land, there is some shore silver fishing at the harbor.

Species and timing

Coho (silver) in July, August and September, 6 to 12 lb. Halibut from May through September, 15 to 80 lb. Lingcod in July, August and September, 8 to 25 lb. Chinook (king) and rockfish are also fished.

License and rules

A federal halibut stamp is required for halibut. Rockfish release tools are required. Halibut and lingcod have separate seasons and limits, so check them before you go.

Aim for July through September if silvers or lingcod are the goal. Halibut start earlier, in May, so spring trips still have a target.
