Mirror Lake (Chugiak)

The feel

Mirror Lake is a clear roadside lake at a wayside on the Glenn Highway, with a picnic area, a boat ramp and a swim beach. It is the first easy stocker north of Anchorage. Single-track mountain bike trails run alongside, so summer works well for pairing a day of casting with a ride. It is stocked with rainbow trout, Arctic char and landlocked salmon.

Rainbow trout (10-14 in), Arctic char (10-16 in) and landlocked salmon. Season is May-Sep.

An Alaska fishing license is needed, available online through the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Open year round, in the Anchorage Management Area.

Come in summer, within the May-Sep season, and bring a bike for the trails next to the lake. Medium crowds are the norm.
