Lost Lake (Seward)

The feel

Lost Lake is a stunning alpine lake atop one of Seward's best hikes, with rainbow trout and a mountain-basin backdrop. It sits at 1,920 feet on open tundra, and you can only reach it on foot.

The rainbows were first stocked in 1963 and are now a self-sustaining alpine population, running 10 to 16 in. Crowds stay low, and the best fishing is at the outlet.

Hike in only, about 7 mi, via the Primrose Trail (Seward Hwy Mile 17) or the Lost Lake Trail (Mile 5.3).

Rainbow trout, 10 to 16 in, best in July and August.
