Kenai Mouth & Flats

The feel

This is an intertidal gravel and mud beach in the estuary. You can surf cast off the beach or work the Flats on a flooding tide.

There is no defined lane here. Fish are still milling, so cover water instead of camping a seam. Kenai Flats SRS is free day use, with a picnic area and restrooms, and you can walk on free off Bridge Access Road. Pink and sockeye are the fish you come for.

Species and timing

Pink (humpy) 3-5 lb and sockeye 4-8 lb in July and August.

License and rules

Sockeye and coho limits are set in season by ADF&G emergency order, and king fishing is often closed. Check the current regulations before you go.

Season and access

The city dock is free for private use outside the dipnet season. From 10 to 31 July the launch is $38.59 plus parking. Kenai Flats SRS is free day use.
