Turtle Club

The feel

The Turtle Club is a fine dining restaurant and bar at Mile 10 Old Steese Highway north of Fairbanks, in Fox. It is decorated wall to wall in turtles, porcelain, stuffed and glass, sent by regulars and by people from all over.

The menu is not extensive. It focuses on meat and seafood, including prime rib, king crab, halibut, shrimp and lobster, and portions are large. A large salad bar comes with the main dishes. The restaurant is laid back, and the attached bar is a good place to meet locals.

What to expect

Setting

Fine dining restaurant and bar at Mile 10 Old Steese Highway, about ten miles out of Fairbanks, in Fox, at 2098 Old Steese Hwy. The place is laid back and covered in turtles.

Hours

Restaurant Mon-Sat 5-10pm, Sun 5-9pm. The bar opens around 4pm and runs to at least midnight most nights.

Food and drink

Prime rib, king crab, halibut, shrimp and lobster, with a large salad bar alongside the main dishes. The "Miner" cuts of meat are big enough to feed "a family of four".

Crowds and best time

It is crowded every night. Reservations are recommended.

Parking

The lot is full in mid-winter, even at 40 below.

Get there near 4pm for a drink at the bar. Dinner service starts at 5pm on every day it runs.

• Reserve ahead at (907) 457-3883.
• Dinner service is 5-10pm Monday through Saturday and 5-9pm on Sunday.
• Allow time to find a space in the lot, even in the dead of winter.
