Whittier Harbor

The feel

Whittier Harbor is a full-service, ice-free port that stays open year round, with 360 slips and a boat launch. Getting there is part of the trip: the only road in runs through the Whittier Tunnel, a single lane shared by vehicles and trains.

Vehicles wait in a staging area at each end until a scheduled departure, and the tunnel is not open 24 hours. A fee is required, so the day starts with the tunnel timetable.
