Deep Creek State Recreation Area
Ninilchik
The feel
Deep Creek is a saltwater beach camp on Cook Inlet at mile 136 of the Sterling Highway, with 100 campsites. Tractors launch boats straight into the inlet here, so charter operators and recreational boaters come for the halibut and king salmon fishing.
Razor clam digging is popular on the beaches from Clam Gulch to Ninilchik. Bald eagles are visible year-round, sandhill cranes and other shorebirds work the saltwater marsh in May, and whales, seals and otters show up offshore.
