Sweetgale Meadworks & Cider House
Homer
The feel
Sweetgale is a meadery and cider house on Main St in Homer, pouring berry meads and hard ciders. The tasting room is in a barn behind the former Timeless Toys building, on the same site as the Sweetgale Wines production facility. The house and barn date from 1950 and were built by Harold Billups, owner of the former Homer Bar.
Owner and operator Jason Davis makes a wild fermented mead from nothing but nagoonberries, honey and water. He grows the nagoonberries himself and keeps 25 bee colonies at the meadery. The Alpine Blueberry Mead took first place in the berry melomel category at the 2022 Texas Mead Cup, and the business won the Best in Show grand prize.

Mingo says
Pick the winter hours or the summer hours before you leave, since the doors open at different times. On a cold evening, sit by the fireplace indoors. In summer, take the covered outdoor area.
