Poopdeck and Story Community Trails
The feel
A short, ADA-accessible gravel path winds through the woods in the middle of downtown Homer, from the Homer Public Library up to Pioneer Avenue. A nice boardwalk, gardens along some points, interpretive signs and a viewing platform line the way. The trail is at minimum 4 feet wide on a 2 to 5% grade.
From the library, the Story Trail leads to the Poopdeck Trail. Going uphill, a left fork takes you to an accessible walkway and bridge, with a spur to a bench. Straight ahead you pass the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust office. Locals use it mostly to get between Pioneer Avenue, the library, neighborhoods and Old Town.

The trail is open in every season, but nobody maintains it in winter. Expect an uncleared surface when snow flies.
Before you go
- Plan your walk inside the 9am to 9pm day-use hours.
- Park at the Homer Public Library, since the only spaces on the trail itself are ADA parking.
- To keep going south toward the Beluga Slough and Bishops Beach, follow the Poopdeck St. sidewalk to the crosswalk at the Sterling Highway.
