Little Tonsina River (Copper Center)

The feel

The Little Tonsina is a clear Copper-country tributary, a break from the glacial main rivers. Grayling and Dolly Varden are the reliable target, with seasonal salmon on top. Crowds are low. The Little Tonsina State Recreation Site sits off the Richardson Highway, and a gravel road reaches the confluence. Anglers work it with spin, bait or fly gear from the bank, and the grayling and Dollies both run 8-14 in.

Species and timing

Arctic grayling in June, July and September at 8-14 in. Dolly Varden in July and August at 8-14 in. Sockeye in July at 4-8 lb. Coho and Chinook are also listed.
