Pigot Bay Cabin

Whittier

The feel

The 16 x 16 ft A-frame cabin stands on a tall bluff above Pigot Bay, and a staircase climbs from the beach to the door. Inside are a main floor, a loft, wooden bunks, a table with benches and an oil drip kerosene stove.

Mountain goats are sometimes seen on the cliffs, and black bears, bald eagles and waterfowl are common. Orcas and humpback whales may be seen too, but the terrain is very rugged, which limits hiking.

Mingo says

Time the trip for pink salmon fishing in the freshwater streams and the bay. Plan a boat or plane trip with weather room built in.

  • Pack a cooking stove, cooking gear, lanterns, bedding, sleeping pads, trash bags and toilet paper, since none of these are provided.
