Ophir Creek Campground

The feel

Ophir Creek has 20 campsites, including one group site, set among white spruce trees on the bank of Nome Creek in the White Mountains National Recreation Area. Each site has a parking area, a picnic table and a fire ring.

The campground gives paddlers river access to Nome Creek, and it is the put-in for floating the Beaver Creek Wild and Scenic River. On foot there is fishing in Nome Creek, a short day hike to Beaver Creek, and a 3-mile loop trail to Table Top Mountain with views of the higher White Mountains peaks.

Layout and setting

20 sites among white spruce on the bank of Nome Creek, each with a parking area, a picnic table and a fire ring, plus one group site.

Parking and rig size

Each site has a parking area. The nearest RV dump station is in Fairbanks.

Fees and reservations

$12 per night for individual sites and $24 per night for the group site, first come, first served. Pay with the mobile app or at the on site fee tube.

Bathrooms and water

Hand pump wells and outhouse style toilets, including an accessible toilet and an accessible hand water pump. Trash cans are provided.

Season and access

Open Memorial Day to mid September. From Fairbanks, take the Steese Highway to mile 57, follow U.S. Creek Road for 7 miles to Nome Creek Road, turn left and go 12 miles.

Mingo says

Time your drive for a Saturday or Sunday this summer, since weekdays are shut to the public. Paddlers can put in right at the campground.
