Little Nelchina State Recreation Site near Nelchina is a bare-bones roadside pull-in by the Little Nelchina River. The site is free and first-come, with about 8 primitive sites open in summer. Fire rings are provided, but there is no water, so plan to bring your own.
The site is about 5.8 miles from Nelchina. If the pull-in is full, Slide Mountain Cabins & RV Park, 2.1 miles away, offers reservable high-country hookups near Eureka Summit. Eureka Roadhouse, 8 miles away at Mile 128 Glenn Highway, has a restaurant known for the Eureka Burger and a full-service bar.
