Harding Lake State Recreation Area Campground
Salcha
The feel
Harding Lake sits about 45 miles south of Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway, and the campground is set in a spruce and birch forest. It has a swimming beach and is popular with Fairbanks and North Pole families for a weekend on the water.
The lake gives canoes, motorized boats and jet skis room to run, with a straight canal leading from the launch toward the center. Anglers fish for lake trout, arctic char and burbot.

Mingo says
Aim for a weekend between mid May and mid September if you want the full lake scene. Check the weather first, since the beach is the draw.
Before you go
- Bring your own firewood; sites have fire rings and tables only.
- Know that pike fishing is closed.
- Call the DNR Public Information Center at (907) 269-8400 with questions.
