Crooked Creek State Recreation Site

The feel

The campground is a short walk from the confluence of Crooked Creek and the Kasilof River. It has 79 campsites and 36 day use parking sites on 105 acres, with picnic sites and trails.

It is most popular in May and June for king salmon fishing from the bank of the Kasilof River. A small steelhead run comes in spring and fall, and Dolly Varden, sockeye and silver salmon run in summer. Moose, black and brown bear, lynx, squirrels and hares are plentiful here.

Fees and reservations

$20 per site per night. First come, first served, with no reservations.

Hazards

Moose, black and brown bear and lynx live here. Do not feed wildlife, and keep a clean camp.

Bathrooms and water

Toilets and water are on site, and the site is an ADA facility.

Season and access

Open May to September. Take the Sterling Highway south and turn right on North Cohoe Loop Road.

Mingo says

Time your trip for the early king run, when the bank fishing is at its busiest. Later in summer the water holds sockeye, silver salmon and Dolly Varden.

• Bring $20 per site for the night and $5 for parking.
• Call (907) 262-5581 with questions about the site.
• Keep a clean camp and do not feed the bears, moose or other wildlife.
• Keep your RV to 35 feet or under, and plan to leave within 7 days.
