Caribou Creek Cabin

Hope

The feel

Caribou Creek Cabin is a 12 x 14-foot rustic cabin on Resurrection Creek, surrounded by spruce and birch forest with views of nearby mountains. It sits on the Resurrection Pass Trail, 7 miles from the north trailhead, near a recreational gold panning area with designated spots to pan along the trail.

Wildlife in the area includes moose, black and brown bears, Dall sheep, mountain goats, caribou and wolves.

What to expect

Layout and setting
One cabin on Resurrection Creek in spruce and birch forest. It has a table, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw and an outhouse, with bunk space for six and a maximum occupancy of eight. A bear locker stands at the cabin.
Check-in and stay
Check-in and check-out are at 12 p.m. The cabin is open year-round.
Fees and reservations
$75/night plus a non-refundable Recreation.gov service fee. Reserve up to 180 days in advance.
Hazards
Winter travel crosses avalanche run-out zones. The Resurrection Pass Trail crosses 2 major avalanche chutes at mile 9.6 and 10, and the first 5 miles of the trail may be icy in winter. Mind the bears.
Bathrooms and water
No potable water at the cabin, so bring an initial supply and boil surface water 5 minutes before drinking. An outhouse stands at the cabin.
Season and access
Year-round. From the north trailhead at milepost 4 of Resurrection Creek Road it is 7 miles; in winter add one extra mile because the road is not plowed to the trailhead. From the south trailhead at milepost 53.2 of Sterling Highway it is 31.8 miles. The trail is closed to motorized vehicles May 1 to November 30 and to pack and saddle stock April 1 to June 30.

Mingo says

In winter, check the avalanche forecast before you start. Expect icy patches on the first stretch of trail, so move with care.
