Civic Center Overlook Trail
The feel
The trail starts at the northwest corner of the Northern Parking lot of the Valdez Civic Center and climbs Civic Center Hill by several quick flights of wooden stairs. Railings help on the steep sections, and the path runs through a fireweed and salmonberry field and a willow-alder scrub forest.
From the ridge you see the Port of Valdez, Ruth Pond and the Civic Center. At the Overlook picnic shelter at the top, the view opens up toward the mountains and the town, with picnic tables under the pavilion. A short flight of stairs leads down to a mostly flat stretch that bends back to the parking lot.
