Tolsona Wilderness Campground

Tolsona

The feel

Tolsona Wilderness Campground has wooded creekside sites at mile 173 of the Glenn Highway, 15 minutes west of Glennallen. The entrance is about 0.75 miles off the highway on a gravel road that can be rough.

You can float the creek, roughly 30 minutes from the north end to the south end. A 1-mile trail leads to a bubbling mud volcano, where animal tracks show in the mud. There are about 80 RV sites plus tent sites and yurts.

Mingo says

Come between May and September, and plan a creek float of roughly 30 minutes. Walk the 1-mile trail to the mud volcano while you are there.

  • Download directions before you leave, since cell service is thin.
  • Keep your dog leashed at all times.
